Captain's cabin.
An old, dignified, grandfather clock ticks away unobtrusively, its case
closed. The log of Captain Kate is here! A framed, ancient chart lies here. On
the ground lies a burning fire brand.
*
read chart
The chart tells of a legendary island, once inhabited by false druids of an
unspeakable evil, who worshipped demonic gods far fouler than the mere idols
of the mainland. The island is located some distance to the northwest of some
boldly-marked rocks standing mockingly in an angry sea. Part of the sheet is
damaged, but a safe route is charted between the rocks and the island which
indicates you should sail southwest, northwest, then to the north, then
northwest, then north, then north again. To get back to the mainland from the
rocks, keep sailing east.

ship can be seen on the south-eastern horizon.

Small bay.
You are in a small bay, skirted by strong currents. To the north is a steep
slope, which the swirling flows about you make the only safe place to land.
The island is a huge rock, topped by a flat plateau upon which is a huge
circle of weatherbeaten stones.
*
n
Steep slope.
This is a steep slope, running upwards to the north. Beyond more slopes, at
the top of the rock, a huge ring of stones can be seen, a scene which
dominates the whole island. To the east is a thicket, and to the west an
arcane forest. Southwards, the slope meets the sea in a bay which looks just
about calm enough to sail a small craft. Fixed into the ground is a
weatherworn signpost.

You are standing on a steep slope, leading upwards to the north. At the top,
there levels out a plateau on the top of the rock which is this island. East

Thicket.
This is a thicket, straddling the island. To the southeast it isolates a
barren headland, and to the east is a windswept cove. West is wilderness which
slopes up northwards, and to the north is level ground, but over which hangs
an aura of intense danger.
*

Cove.
You are standing in a sandy, windswept cove to the east of the island. South
is a barren headland, and southwest a thicket. To the north is forest, and to
the northwest a clearing, near which the indigenous birds of the island refuse
to fly. Eastwards is the rough sea. A seashell lies here. Lying before you is
a rather pretty shell. You espy a beautiful, mid-blue sapphire here. Standing
in the sand is a fearsome broadsword.
*

You try to set sail, but the seas are much rougher than you had anticipated.
Desperately, you try to make your way back to the shore, realising that death
is inevitable. You are right, and inevitably die.

Elizabethan tearoom.
This cosy, Tudor period room is where all MUD adventures start. Its exposed
oak beams and soft, velvet-covered furniture provide it with the ideal
atmosphere in which to relax before venturing out into that strange, timeless
realm. A sense of decency and decorum prevails, and a feeling of kinship with
those who, like you, seek their destiny in The Land. When you are suitably
composed, you may enter that domain by stepping through an opening to the
north; however, you are welcome to stay here for as long as you like, sipping
tea and watching the world go by.
