*
Flexington
Elizabethan tearoom.
This cosy, Tudor period room is where all MUD adventures start. Its exposed
oak beams and soft, velvet-covered furniture provide it with the ideal
atmosphere in which to relax before venturing out into that strange, timeless
realm. A sense of decency and decorum prevails, and a feeling of kinship with
those who, like you, seek their destiny in The Land. When you are suitably
composed, you may enter that domain by stepping through an opening to the
north; however, you are welcome to stay here for as long as you like, sipping
tea and watching the world go by.
Drizzle the wobbly mage continues to be the ultimate pelican crossing
(whatever that means) holding a cup of tea.
Players:
Flexington the loud heroine
Drizzle the wobbly mage
*
Drizzle rotates.
*
"FLEXINGTON GOT DISTRACTED
Flexington the loud heroine says "FLEXINGTON GOT DISTRACTED".
*
Hovering before you is Eros, wearing a blindfold.
Out of nowhere, Eros suddenly produces a bow and looses an arrow straight at
your heart! It's a direct hit, but almost immediately the missile disappears!
You feel a strange longing...
Your stamina has fallen from 98 to 94.
Eros pulls his bow and shoots Drizzle the wobbly mage!
Eros gives a satisfied smile, and flies away.
The name "Drizzle" pops into your head.
*
kiss drizzle
You give Drizzle the wobbly mage a great big kiss!
Your heart goes all a-flutter!
(Persona saved on +50 = 5,500).
*
You now feel up to attacking other players, should you so desire.
*
"ANYWAY DRIZZLE, FLEXINGTON HAS BEEN THINKING
Flexington the loud heroine says "ANYWAY DRIZZLE, FLEXINGTON HAS BEEN
THINKING".
*
"FLEXINGTON HAS BEEN LIVING ON BORROWED TIME SINCE THE INCIDENT, AND IT FEELS AS IF IT'S TIME FOR
SOMETHING TO BE DONE ABOUT THAT
Flexington the loud heroine says "FLEXINGTON HAS BEEN LIVING ON BORROWED TIME
SINCE THE INCIDENT, AND IT FEELS AS IF IT'S TIME FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE
ABOUT THAT".
*
"FAREWELL, DRIZZLE!
Flexington the loud heroine exclaims "FAREWELL, DRIZZLE!".
*
WAVES
I don't know the word "waves".
*
WAVE
OK, Flexington the loud heroine waves.
*
N
You step through the opening into a blurred patchwork of greens and browns,
which whirl around you in seemingly aimless patterns until they suddenly slide
into shape...
Dense forest.
You are standing in some dense forest, which slopes down to the south.
*
A male voice in the distance yodels "Have fun!".
*
W
Dense forest.
You are standing in some dense forest, which slopes down to the south. There
is a large stick on the ground.
*
W
The forest becomes too dense to go any further. You give up and turn back.
*
S
Stony slope.
This is a slope running down from a dale in the east to a beach in the west.
North is forest, and to the south is a section of railway line which runs
east-west.
*
S
Railway track.
This is the last section of a railway line. It continues to the east where it
cuts through some dales, but to the west it stops at the beach. Northwards is
a stony slope also leading to the beach, and to the southwest is a like slope,
covered in scrubs.
*
S
West dale.
This is a pleasant dale, hugging the slopes of a huge forest-covered
escarpment which rises to the south. East is more forest, but the dale curves
southeastwards behind it. West is a slope of scrubland, which rolls down to
the sea beyond. North is a railway line, which runs from east to west,
standard gauge.
*S
South dale.
This is a peaceful dale, nestled at the base of a huge afforested escarpment
which slopes steeply away to the south. Northwards is another forest, and
eastwards the overgrown grounds of a mausoleum, dwarfed by an enormous
mountain which stands high above. The dale curves away to the northwest, and
westwards is a dangerous cliff.
*S
Forest on steep slope.
You are in dense forest, sloping from the south downwards to the north. On the
ground there is a large stick.
*
S
Dense forest.
You are wandering around in some dense forest. A large stick lies on the
ground.
*
S
Dense forest.
You are wandering around in some dense forest. To the west is the entrance to
a misty graveyard. Hanging from the branches is an old hammock. A large stick
lies on the ground.
*
S
Narrow road.
You are on a narrow east-west road with forest to the north and gorse scrub to
the south.
*
S
Gorse.
You are in a tangled mass of prickly gorse.
*
W
Vegetable garden.
You are standing in the middle of what was obviously a vegetable garden.
However it has not been tended for years and most of the vegetables have run
wild. A clove of garlic has been left here. Growing here is a large, leafy
spinach.
*
S
East pasture.
Around you is a delightful pasture. To the south is a fast flowing stream.
Further north and east you can see a woodman's hut and to the north is gorse
scrub. Northwestwards you can see a strange, forbidding cottage, which you can
enter via its french windows. A bright red, rubber bouncy-ball has come to
rest here.
*
W
West pasture.
You are in comparatively pleasant pasture. To the south is a river, to the
north a track. Eastwards the pasture is seen to continue, while to the
northeast is the flower garden of a strange cottage. A tall foxglove is
growing here.
*
W
Cliff.
You are standing on the edge of a cliff surrounded by forest to the north and
a river to the south. A chill wind blows up the unclimbable and unscaled
heights. At the base of the cliff you can just make out the shapes of jagged
rocks.
*
W
As you approach the edge of the cliff, the rock starts to crumble. Hurriedly,
you retreat as you begin to feel the ground give way under your feet!
*
S
Waterfall.
Before you is an awe-inspiring sight: a waterfall plummets over a cliff and
explodes in a dazzling crescendo of rainbow colour on the menacing rocks
below.
*
S
The water here is flowing too fast for you to ford the river safely.
*
E
River.
You are on the bank of a fast flowing river with pasture to the north and
forest to the south.
*
S
South pasture.
All about you is a pleasant pasture. To the north is a fast flowing stream,
and to the south is forest. Westwards is a thundering waterfall.
*
S
Dense forest.
You are wandering around in some dense forest, to the south of a pleasant
pasture, and to the west of a fuming swamp. To the southwest the forest opens
up onto a magical glade.
*
S
Magical glade.
You are in a magical glade, surrounded by forest. East and west it looks
impenetrable, but in the northerly directions the trees are less dense. In the
southerly directions, the trees are of soft pine, and through them to the
southwest can be glimpsed a sundial.
*
S
Pine forest.
You are wandering about amongst some soft pine trees. To the north the forest
clears to become a glade, but everywhere else are more trees. Through the
foliage to the northwest can be glimpsed a sundial. A rickety old barge is
lying here.
*
W
Pine forest.
You are wandering around amongst some soft pine trees. All about you are more,
some densely packed and others allowing passage through. A rusty key can be
seen here. Forsaken here is an unusual fairy story book.

healthy sharn, deposited by some ox.
*
E
Pine forest.
You are wandering around amongst some soft pine trees. All about you are more,
some densely packed and others allowing passage through. To the northeast
through the trees can be made out a wooden building something like a
bandstand. To the southeast there looks to be some sort of religious shrine.

*
NE
Entrance to badger's sett.
You are in part of a large pine forest. Northwest, the forest opens up onto a
magical glade, and in all other directions the forest continues, although in
some the trees are too thick to permit passage. In front of you, in the
ground, a hole leads downwards into a badger's sett.
*
N
The forest becomes too dense to go any further. You give up and turn back.
*
E
Squirrel part of forest.
This is the part of the forest used by squirrels, however they all scampered
off when they heard you coming. All around you is forest, all of which looks
amenable to your passage.
*
E
Pine forest.
You are pushing your way through the pine needles in a dense forest.
Eastwards, the make-up of the forest changes to normal, deciduous trees.
Northeast is a pasture, and north can be smelled a fuming swamp. In all other
directions the pines get thicker, although you will probably still be able to
get through. A rusty key can be seen here. An old, woodsman's axe has been
left within reach. A large stick lies on the ground.
*
E
Dense forest.
You are standing in a dense forest. It continues to the southeast at a
passable level, but south it is too thick to allow movement through. Westwards
it becomes a pine forest. North, northeast and east are pastures, and
northwest lies a festering, fuming swamp.
*
E
South lush pasture.
This is a lush, pleasant pasture, which spreads far away in all the northerly
directions; eastwards, it becomes rougher. There is forest everywhere else.
*
E
Rough pasture.
You are standing in a bleak, rough pasture. This seems to be due to the
presence of an evil wood to the east and south, for north and west are more
pastures which seem to be far greener and lusher than here. Southwest is a
forest, and northeast there looks to be a fast-flowing river. Growing near
your feet is a pretty celandine.
*
E
Evil wood.
You are wandering around in among the hideously deformed oaks of an evil wood.
To the north and east runs a river, and west is a rough pasture. The wood gets
thicker to the south, where it continues in an almost impenetrable darkness...
A wraith of death glides silently towards you... The wraith is carrying a
firestone2.
*
The wraith glides away.
*E
The river is flowing too fast for you to be able to cross.
*
N
Fast-flowing river.
You are walking beside a fast-flowing, yet shallow, river, which originates
from a fork in a much faster river to the southeast, and continues to the
northwest. North is an orchard, which by the northeast has become a normal
forest. East is a meadow, south of which is a gazebo. To the west lies a lush
pasture, but southwest it is rough and desolate. A lone, sorrowful magpie
flutters around.
*
W
East lush pasture.
You are standing in lush pasture, irrigated by a river which curves from
bordering to the east of where you stand, round to the north, and continuing
west from there to the northwest. The pasture carries on to the west and
southwest, but south is some rougher pasture which isn't so good. Before you
stands a magnificent ram.
*
ZW
North lush pasture.
You are treading over the soft grass of a lush pasture. To the north is a
river, which continues to the northeast and flows beneath a mountain to the
northwest. East, west and south, the pasture continues, yet to the southeast
it becomes much rougher and more desolate. To the southwest lies forest. A
sweet little daisy chain has fallen here.
*
ZW
West lush pasture.
This is a lush pasture which sprawls at the feet of a majestic mountain to the
north. The pasture continues to the east and southeast, but south and
southwest are forests. West, the pasture ends beside a fuming swamp.
*
ZW
You are waylaid in a fuming swamp.
*
N
Pond in swamp.
This is a small, shallow freshwater pond, fed by a small brook joining it to
the river. It is too shallow to swim, and there are no edible fish living in
it. Northwest are rapids, but everywhere else is swamp. A mist-swathed banshee
floats nebulously before you.
*
N
You are waylaid in a treacherous swamp.
*N
Rapids.
You are on the bank of some dangerous rapids. Beyond them to the east the
river goes underground; to the west it continues out of sight, and you can
hear a thundering of falling water from that direction. To the south can be
seen (and smelled!) a fuming swamp, and southeast is a small pond. A sturdy ox
lumbers past nearby.
*
N
Your way is blocked by the ox.

Ox dropped.

East pasture.
A butterfly flutters by. A bright red, rubber bouncy-ball has come to rest
here.
*
N
In front of hut.
You are standing to the north of a ramshackle hut. Behind you is a field of
gorse. Further on to the south you can see a fast flowing river. To the east
you can see a range of mountains wreathed in mist and to the west is a small
cottage.

*
N
Dense forest.
You are standing in a dense forest, with a railway line to the north and a
pleasant dale to the south and west. On the ground there is a large stick.
*
N
Railway track.
This is an east-west railway track, running through some very pleasant
surroundings. To the north and southwest are peaceful dales, and to the south
lies a drowsy forest. A hillock to the southeast is cut through by the track
as it heads east towards the base of a mighty cliff. A golden bolt has been
hammered into one of the railway sleepers.
*
S
Dense forest.
There is a large stick on the ground.
*S
South dale.
*
E
Overgrown grounds of mausoleum.
This once well-tended garden has now, sadly, fallen into a state of neglect.
Standing within, its entrance lying to the southeast, is a cold, bemossed
mausoleum. The scene is dominated by a huge cliff to the east, at the base of
an awe-inspiring mountain which climbs away into the clouds, its foothills
sweeping down into a steep escarpment covered in forest to the south. North is
more forest, and west a dale. To the northwest there looks to be a railway
cutting.
*
S
Forest on steep slope.
You are in dense forest, sloping from the south downwards to the north. To the
southeast are the foothills of an enormous mountain, which rises to the east.
*

*W
Forest on steep slope.
You are in dense forest, sloping from the south downwards to the north. To the
west can be heard the roar of the sea, as it crashes into the cliffs beyond
the trees. A piece of paper litters the ground.
*
W
The forest becomes too dense to go any further. You give up and turn back.
*
E
Forest on steep slope.
There is a large stick on the ground.
*E
Forest on steep slope.
*E
Forested part of north mountain.
You are standing in amongst some trees which cloak the lower slopes of a
majestic mountain, rising to the north above the timber-line. In all
directions, the mountain continues, although south and west are only gentle
foothills. Lurking close by is a tall, thin thief. The thief is carrying a
dagger0. Perched nearby is a splendid, red and blue parrot. There is a large
stick on the ground.
*
E
North mountain.
You are scaling the lower slopes of a majestic mountain. Its peak lies high
above the clouds far to the north, although progress that way is only limited
due to an interposing cliff which stands out boldly after some more climbable
slopes. South are foothills.
*
N
North mountain.
You are climbing the slopes of a majestic mountain, which continue to rise
awesomely in the northern and western directions, and descend less
spectacularly to the south and east.
*
N
North mountain.
You are standing in the lower slopes of a majestic mountain beside a huge
cliff to the north, which towers high above you. So rugged is the cliff that
you cannot climb it, only gasp at the geological wonder of it all. The
mountain slopes downwards to the south, and continues at the same level to the
west. A horrifying zombie (zombie9) stands in your way!
*
N
The mountain is too steep to ascend in that direction.
*
W
Your way is blocked by the zombie9.
*
The zombie9 drags itself off.
*
W
North mountain.
You are in the corner of a horseshoe-shaped cliff, which curves round from the
north to the west, blocking your way. All around you in other directions lie
the slopes leading up to the cliff, which towers high above you, ending just
below the clouds. A modest-sized cave is situated in the cliff directly to the
north. There is a long-disused warning beacon here.
*
N
Cave of stars.
From the narrow, unpretentious entrance to this small cave, you are witness to
an awesome, brilliant spectacle of natural wonder. The dark, grey walls are
studded with innumerable deposits of a strange, red, translucent mineral,
which trace eerily across the entire cave, scintillating like a thousand stars
to the dancing light of a perfectly-formed touchstone, situated in the centre
of the room, and dominating the scene with its profound and terrible beauty.
Plainly, this stone is an object of immense and ancient power, power which
might bestow great magic on some, yet which for many more leads only to the
reward of dark and helpless oblivion.
*
SHOUT

You shout
"FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!"
.

*
TOUCH TOUCHSTONE
A feeling of unbelievable power surges through your body. You gulp it back,
yet it still floods your every fibre. You begin to feel hot, and dizzy, and
still the magic engulfs you, ever-increasing in its intensity. Suddenly,
something inside you snaps, the light in the cave becomes a painful, chaotic
mix of harsh, vivid colour, and you collapse and die.
