Rapids.
You are on the bank of some dangerous rapids. Beyond them to the east the
river goes underground; to the west it continues out of sight, and you can
hear a thundering of falling water from that direction. To the south can be
seen (and smelled!) a fuming swamp, and southeast is a small pond.

Elizabethan tearoom.
This cosy, Tudor period room is where all MUD adventures start. Its exposed
oak beams and soft, velvet-covered furniture provide it with the ideal
atmosphere in which to relax before venturing out into that strange, timeless
realm. A sense of decency and decorum prevails, and a feeling of kinship with
those who, like you, seek their destiny in The Land. When you are suitably
composed, you may enter that domain by stepping through an opening to the
north; however, you are welcome to stay here for as long as you like, sipping
tea and watching the world go by.
Drizzle the wobbly mage continues to be the ultimate pelican crossing
(whatever that means) holding a cup of tea.

As you step through the opening, you become swathed in a fine, gossamer mist.
The Elizabethan tearoom fades hazily away, and vague, new shapes begin to form
around you. Their outlines become more defined, their colours grow stronger,
and the mist thins out into pale wisps, which gradually disperse away to
nothingness...

slopes downwards to the north. To the east and south, the forest becomes

protected ineffectually by the remains of a fence which long since rotted away
to virtually nothing.

Mausoleum.
You are standing inside a piece of history, a mausoleum which is far more
ancient than its weatherbeaten exterior would indicate. Within the circular
walls are the tombs of many, their names and heraldic designs carved into the
stones in a language which was dead before Atlantis sank. The easiest exit
from this eerie window on the past is to the northwest. On the floor, however,
is carved an inscription in an archaic predecessor of your own language, which
looks readable. The floor and ceiling do not have entrances, but the tombs
seem to. Written on the north tomb is: "dog=11, monkey=9, rabbit=4, snake=6,

This is a lush pasture which sprawls at the feet of a majestic mountain to the
north. The pasture continues to the east and southeast, but south and
southwest are forests. West, the pasture ends beside a fuming swamp.

Magical glade.
You are in a magical glade, surrounded by forest. East and west it looks
impenetrable, but in the northerly directions the trees are less dense. In the
southerly directions, the trees are of soft pine, and through them to the
southwest can be glimpsed a sundial.

Sundial in pine forest.
This is part of a large pine forest. To the northeast, the forest opens up
onto a magical glade, but in other directions is more forest, some of it too
dense to allow passage. Here, however, the forest is noticeably thinner,
indicating that it was once a clearing upon which the pines are gradually
encroaching. Before you stands an old, stone sundial, overgrown with ivy. The
sundial has no gnomon, so cannot be used to tell the time. Steaming here is a
healthy sharn, deposited by some ox.

You are standing in amongst the trees of a pine forest. All around, the forest
continues, although in some directions the trees are too thick to allow
passage. Standing before you is an ornate stone birdbath, but the water it
contains is not drinkable. The birdbath contains water.

Dangerous cliff.
You are standing by the edge of a dangerous, partly-forested cliff, which
slopes downwards to the north. To the east and south, the forest becomes
thicker, and to the northeast the slope levels out onto a dale. The crumbling,
eroded western edge of the cliff looks so liable to collapse that no-one in
their right mind would risk certain death by leaping off.

South dale.
This is a peaceful dale, nestled at the base of a huge afforested escarpment
which slopes steeply away to the south. Northwards is another forest, and
eastwards the overgrown grounds of a mausoleum, dwarfed by an enormous
mountain which stands high above. The dale curves away to the northwest, and
westwards is a dangerous cliff.
*

Overgrown grounds of mausoleum.
This once well-tended garden has now, sadly, fallen into a state of neglect.
Standing within, its entrance lying to the southeast, is a cold, bemossed
mausoleum. The scene is dominated by a huge cliff to the east, at the base of
an awe-inspiring mountain which climbs away into the clouds, its foothills
sweeping down into a steep escarpment covered in forest to the south. North is
more forest, and west a dale. To the northwest there looks to be a railway
cutting.

The floor and ceiling do not have entrances, but the tombs
seem to. Written on the north tomb is: "dog=11, monkey=9, rabbit=4, snake=6,
?=1". Written on the west tomb is: "ls b sp cl h tcr oc bs ma lg q ?". Written
on the south tomb is: "earth=6480000, air=72900, fire=21870000, water=2592000,
wisdom=?". Written on the east tomb is: "0001100 1011011 0011111 0101101
0110111 ?". Written on the southeast tomb is: "zud tqc ssh ndo dtq qsd sdh dnv

Northeast tomb.
This tomb, lying northeast of the central circle of the mausoleum, is of a
disturbing, almost frightening design. Its walls are covered in half-completed
sketches of occultist rites and human sacrifices, and the overall effect is
worsened by the stench of death which seems to pervade the very air you
breathe. The northeast tomb is open. An animated skeleton (skeleton2) bars
your way. The skeleton2 is carrying a sceptre. A smallish, wooden sailing
dinghy, only large enough for one person, has been left here.
